The OSG 1650512208 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads to the 7/16-14 UNC standard with a 2B class of fit. Built from powdered metal with a V coating, it offers improved wear resistance and edge retention compared to standard HSS taps. The bottoming chamfer geometry allows threading to the bottom of blind holes where clearance is limited. With a 45-degree helix angle and 3 flutes, this tap is well suited for pulling chips up and out of the hole, reducing the risk of re-cutting debris. Overall length is 3.937 inches with a thread length of 0.570 inches. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers of this tool.
The 1650512208 is intended for use in a wide range of materials including alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel. The bottoming chamfer style makes it the correct choice for blind-hole applications where a plug or taper tap would leave unthreaded material at the base. It is part of OSG Series 16505 and is packaged individually. Typical applications span production machining, maintenance and repair operations, and precision fabrication environments.
Rated for use in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel. Part of OSG Series 16505.
This tap is installed using a standard tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC rigid tapping spindle sized for the shank diameter. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole diameter matches the recommended tap drill size for 7/16-14 UNC before tapping. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to maximize tool life and thread quality. Power down or de-energize any machine spindle before manually changing or inspecting the tap.
