The OSG 1650509708 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 8-32 UNC internal threads in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. It features a 45-degree helix angle and three right-hand flutes that efficiently evacuate chips back out of the hole, making it well suited for bottoming applications where threads must be cut close to the bottom of a blind hole. The tap is manufactured from powdered metal and carries a TiCN (V) coating for improved wear resistance and lubricity. With an overall length of 2.48 inches and a thread length of 0.251 inches, it fits standard tapping tool holders used in manual and CNC tapping operations. Thread class of fit is 2B with an H3 thread limit.
This tap is intended for use in ferrous and non-ferrous metallic materials including alloy steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum including cast aluminum. The bottoming chamfer style makes it the right choice when full thread depth is required at the base of a blind hole, a common requirement in fixture work, structural assemblies, and precision machined components across manufacturing and maintenance environments. It belongs to OSG Series 16505 and is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in both shop and field settings.
Designed for tapping 8-32 UNC threads in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and hardened materials per ISO material application codes P, M, K, N, and H. Part of OSG Series 16505.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists using a standard tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC rigid tapping cycle. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned to the drilled hole before beginning the tapping cycle. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain thread quality. Do not attempt to reverse the tap without full disengagement from the thread form to avoid breakage, particularly in blind-hole applications.
