The OSG 1650509408 is a spiral flute bottoming tap designed for cutting internal 6-32 UNC threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from powdered metal and finished with a V (vanadium) coating, this tap delivers improved wear resistance and edge retention compared to standard high-speed steel. The 45-degree helix angle drives chips up and out of the flute during tapping, reducing the risk of chip packing in blind holes. With a 2B class of fit and H3 thread limit, it produces threads suited to standard fastener assemblies. It is intended for use by machinists, tool and die professionals, and maintenance technicians working on precision metalwork applications.
This tap is suited for blind-hole threading applications where a bottoming chamfer is required to cut threads as close to the bottom of the hole as possible. The 3-flute spiral design performs well across alloy steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, hardened steel, cast iron, aluminum, and cast aluminum. The 6-32 UNC thread form is commonly found in electronic enclosures, instrument panels, and light mechanical assemblies. With an overall length of 2.25 inches and a thread length of 0.248 inches, this tap fits standard tap handles and tapping chucks sized for the 0.141-inch shank diameter.
Designed for cutting 6-32 UNC internal threads in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel. Part of OSG Series 16505.
This tap should be installed in a tap handle, T-handle, or machine tapping chuck rated for the 0.141-inch shank diameter before use. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and that the correct tap drill size for 6-32 UNC has been used prior to tapping. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to maximize tool life and thread quality. Always release torque and back the tap out periodically when hand tapping blind holes to clear chips and prevent breakage.
