The OSG 1650503308 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading 1/2-13 UNC holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a 45-degree helix angle that evacuates chips upward out of the hole, making it well-suited for blind-hole tapping operations. Manufactured from powdered metal (grade PMT15) and finished with a TICN coating, the tap delivers improved wear resistance and extended tool life compared to standard high-speed steel alternatives. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole. Overall length is 110 mm (approximately 4.33 inches) with a thread length of 15.6 mm (0.614 inches).
This tap is intended for use in machine tapping applications across metalworking, fabrication, and maintenance environments. It is appropriate for threading alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, stainless steel, and hardened steel. The 3B class of fit and H3 thread limit make it suitable for standard tolerance threaded assemblies in production or job-shop settings. It is typically run in CNC machining centers, turret lathes, or dedicated tapping machines where consistent feed and speed control are maintained.
Designed for machine tapping of 1/2-13 UNC threads. Rated for use in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, stainless steel, and hardened steel workpieces. Part of OSG Series 16505.
This tap is intended for installation by machinists and tool-and-die professionals using machine tapping equipment with controlled feed rates. Before tapping, ensure the pilot hole diameter is correct for a 1/2-13 UNC thread and that the workpiece is securely fixtured. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tap lubricant matched to the workpiece material to protect the coating and extend tool life. Do not use this tap for hand tapping, as the spiral flute geometry and tight tolerances require synchronized machine feed to prevent breakage.
