The OSG 1650500808 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading 8-32 UNC holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from powdered metal (PMT15 grade) and coated with titanium carbonitride (TiCN), it delivers extended tool life in demanding production environments. The 45-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation up the flute, making it well suited for blind-hole tapping where chip packing is a concern. With a modified bottoming chamfer, the tap threads close to the bottom of a drilled hole. Overall length is 3.93 inches with a thread length of 0.251 inches. This tool is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals using standard tapping equipment.
This tap is intended for use in CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and drill press tapping applications where 8-32 UNC internal threads are required. Rated for a 2B class of fit, it produces threads appropriate for standard fastener assembly tolerances. The material application range covers alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel, making it a versatile choice across production and maintenance machining work.
Designed for cutting 8-32 UNC internal threads in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Part of OSG Series 16505.
This tap is installed by machinists using a tapping chuck, rigid tap holder, or floating tap holder mounted in a machine spindle or drill press. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole diameter matches the recommended tap drill size for 8-32 UNC before beginning the tapping cycle. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to prevent galling and premature tool wear. Never reverse a broken tap manually — follow established safe tap-removal procedures.
