The OSG 1650002108 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading M16x2.00 metric coarse internal threads in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. Built from powdered metal (grade PMT15) and finished with a TICN coating, this tap delivers the hardness and lubricity needed for production tapping in demanding materials including stainless steel, hardened steel, and cast iron. It features a 45-degree helix angle that efficiently evacuates chips upward out of the hole, reducing the risk of chip packing in blind-hole applications. With an overall length of 110 millimeters and a 16 millimeter thread length, the 1650002108 is sized for typical M16 tapping operations in machined components. A licensed machinist or CNC operator would be the typical end user.
This tap is suited for blind-hole and through-hole tapping operations in production machining, toolroom, and maintenance environments. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard taper or plug chamfer. Compatible material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel. It carries a 6H class of fit and a D7 thread limit, making it appropriate for standard metric tolerance threading requirements across these material categories.
Rated for use in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Part of the OSG Series 16500 spiral flute tap line.
This tap is installed by a machinist or CNC operator using a tapping head, rigid tap holder, or synchronized spindle on a machine tool. Power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling. Use the appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material to maximize tool life and thread quality. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use and do not force a worn tap, as breakage in the bore can result in costly rework.
