The OSG 1645012243 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading 12-24 UNC holes in ferrous metals. It features a 45-degree helix angle that evacuates chips upward out of the hole, making it well suited for blind-hole applications where chip packing is a concern. The tap is ground from vanadium high-speed steel and coated with titanium nitride (TiN) to extend tool life and reduce friction during cutting. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Thread class is 2B with an H3 limit, targeting standard-tolerance threaded assemblies. Installation is performed by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians using a tapping machine, drill press, or hand tap wrench.
This tap is intended for use in steel and stainless steel workpieces, including alloy steel, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel. It is a right-hand thread, right-hand flute configuration. With an overall length of 3.15 inches and a tapping depth of 0.9375 inches, it fits standard tap holders for 12-24 applications.
