The OSG 1635035066 is a thread forming tap designed for metric coarse internal threading in a wide range of metals. Unlike cutting taps, this tool forms threads by cold-working the workpiece material, displacing metal rather than removing chips. The M3.5x0.60 thread profile with a 6H class of fit makes it suitable for precision threaded holes requiring close tolerances. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, it handles demanding materials including stainless steel, titanium, alloy steel, and high-nickel alloys. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 56 millimeters (2.2047 inches), and thread length is 7.20 millimeters (0.2835 inches).
This tap is used in precision machining environments where clean, accurate internal threads are required in both blind and through-hole applications. Material application codes P, M, N, and H cover carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, cast aluminum, hardened steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. It is part of the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16350, a product line engineered for high-performance thread forming in production and job-shop settings. Right-hand thread direction is standard. Typical end users include CNC machinists, toolroom technicians, and precision manufacturing shops working with tightly toleranced threaded fastener holes.
Designed for blind hole and through-hole threading in aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium workpieces. Part of the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16350.
Thread forming taps require a larger pilot hole diameter than cutting taps — consult OSG EXOPRO XPF forming tap drill charts for the correct forming drill size for M3.5x0.60 before machining. Use a tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material, especially when working with stainless steel or titanium. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping and ensure the tap is driven on-axis to prevent tap breakage or thread distortion. This tool should be installed and operated by qualified machinists familiar with thread forming processes.
