The OSG 1635025455 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting or removing material. It operates in the M2.5x0.45 Metric Coarse thread form with a 6H class of fit and a D5 thread limit. The modified bottoming chamfer — 2.5 to 3 threads — allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, this tap is built for demanding threading applications across a wide range of materials. It is sized for use in machining centers, CNC mills, and manual tapping operations. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
This tap is suited for both blind-hole and through-hole threading in production and repair environments. Its thread forming action is particularly effective in ductile materials where chip-free threading is an advantage. The TiCN coating reduces friction and extends tool life in abrasive and tough-to-machine materials. With an overall length of 50 millimeters and a thread length of 9.80 millimeters, the tap is compact and compatible with standard tap holders and extension arms used in small-thread work. It is part of the OSG EXOPRO XPF series, engineered for high-performance cold-form tapping.

Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole — consult an M2.5x0.45 cold-form tap drill chart, as the recommended hole diameter differs from standard cut-tap drill sizes. Secure the tap in a rigid tap holder or tension-compression floating holder appropriate for small-diameter taps to avoid breakage. Apply a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material before and during the operation. Ensure the machine spindle and workpiece fixture are properly aligned before engagement to prevent tap deflection or breakage at this small diameter.
