The OSG 1635020252 is a thread forming tap designed for M20x2.50 metric coarse threading applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps cold-form threads by displacing material rather than cutting it, producing stronger threads with no chips. This tap features a cobalt substrate with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating and a modified bottoming chamfer of 2.5 to 3 threads, making it well suited for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. It carries a 6H class of fit and D12 thread limit. Part of the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16350, it is installed by machinists, toolmakers, and skilled trades professionals in production and job-shop environments.
This tap is rated for use in a wide range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. It is suited for both blind hole and through-hole threading operations. With an overall length of 5.51 inches (140 mm) and a thread length of 0.98 inches (25 mm), it fits standard tapping setups on CNC machining centers and manual tap handles designed for M20 shank diameter tooling.

Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill — consult material-specific tap drill charts for the correct pre-drill diameter, as it differs from cutting tap drill sizes. Use a tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material. Ensure the spindle is aligned perpendicular to the workpiece before engagement. Power down or de-energize the machine and secure the workpiece before changing or inspecting tooling.
