The OSG 1635012751 is a thread forming tap designed for M12x1.75 metric coarse threading in demanding machining applications. It features a modified bottoming chamfer with 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads, a 6H class of fit, and a D11 thread limit. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high speed steel and coated with TiCN for extended tool life in abrasive and hard materials. With an overall length of 110 mm (4.3307 inches) and a thread length of 17 mm (0.6693 inches), it is suited for both blind hole and through-hole threading operations. Machinists and tool and die professionals use this tap in production environments requiring precise metric internal threads.
This tap is built for a wide range of workpiece materials, including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. It is appropriate for both blind hole and through-hole threading scenarios on CNC machining centers, manual mills, and tapping machines. Thread forming taps should be installed by qualified machinists familiar with tap geometry and material-specific speeds and feeds. Before tapping, ensure the spindle and workholding are powered down or stopped and the correct pilot hole diameter for forming taps is used, as forming taps require a different hole size than cutting taps for the same thread. Apply an appropriate cutting or tapping fluid for the workpiece material. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable OSHA machining standards when handling and installing cutting tools.
