The OSG 1626003708 is a thread forming STI tap designed for cutting 1/2-20 UNF internal threads in pre-drilled holes. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than remove chips, producing stronger threads with a better surface finish. This tap is manufactured from high-speed steel and carries a V (bright) finish. It features an H5 thread limit and a semi-bottoming chamfer, making it suited for threading holes that require close approach to the bottom without full bottom tap requirements. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and industrial technicians use this tap in production and repair applications.
This tap is intended for use on a range of materials including carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, aluminum, nickel, hardened steel, and titanium alloy. The semi-bottoming chamfer provides a balance between starting ease and depth capability, making it practical for both through-hole and near-bottom hole applications. With a 3B class of fit, it produces threads that meet standard UNF tolerance specifications for general mechanical assembly.
