The OSG 1625514026 is a thread forming tap designed for cutting 1/4-20 UNC internal threads in a wide range of metals. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than remove chips, producing stronger threads with better surface finish. This tap features a semi-bottoming chamfer, right-hand thread direction, and an H6 thread limit. It is manufactured from cobalt high speed steel for extended tool life in demanding production and maintenance environments. Overall length is 5.906 inches with a thread length of 0.526 inches and a neck length of 1.207 inches. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians install this tap in manual or CNC tapping operations.
This tap is suited for threading operations in both production shops and field maintenance settings. The cobalt material construction makes it appropriate for use in materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is aligned perpendicular to the hole to avoid tap breakage. Installation is performed by machinists and maintenance technicians using standard tapping handles, drill presses, or CNC machining centers.
