The OSG 1625083245 is a thread forming tap in the EXOPRO XPF Series 16250, designed for roll-form threading of through-holes in a wide range of metals. Unlike cutting taps, this plug-chamfer forming tap displaces material rather than removing chips, producing stronger threads with a superior finish. It is manufactured from cobalt high speed steel with a V-coat finish and carries an H5 thread limit for tight tolerance control. The 8-32 UNC configuration with a 2B class of fit makes it a standard choice for fastener holes in light industrial and precision mechanical assemblies. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers.
This tap suits through-hole threading operations at 8-32 UNC in a broad spectrum of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. The plug chamfer provides 4 to 4.5 threads of lead, making it well suited for both CNC tapping centers and manual tapping in production and maintenance environments. Its compact overall length of 2.4803 inches fits standard tap holders and quick-change systems used in shop floor applications.
Designed for through-hole thread forming in aluminum, cast aluminum, hardened steel, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium workpieces. Material application codes P, M, N, and H. Compatible with standard tap holders accepting a 0.1680-inch shank diameter and a 0.1310-inch square drive.
Thread forming taps require a precisely sized forming tap drill hole, which is larger than a standard cut tap pilot hole for the same thread size — consult the appropriate forming tap drill chart before machining. Ensure adequate lubrication or cutting fluid is applied, as forming taps generate higher torque than cutting taps, particularly in stainless steel and titanium. Power down or de-energize the machine spindle before installing or removing the tap from the holder. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable OSHA machining standards when operating tapping equipment.
