The OSG 1625076145 is a thread forming tap designed for right-hand tapping of 7/16-14 UNC threads in a 3B class of fit. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating, this tap cold-forms threads rather than cutting them, displacing material to produce stronger thread forms with no chips. The modified bottoming chamfer — approximately 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads — allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes while still providing enough lead for reliable starting. Overall length is 3.937 inches (100 mm), with a thread length of 0.712 inches and a shank diameter of 0.323 inches. It carries an H5 thread limit and belongs to OSG Series 16250, also marketed under the EXOPRO XPF trade name.
This tap is suited for both blind-hole and through-hole threading applications across a broad range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. The cobalt substrate and TiCN coating make it especially effective in abrasive and work-hardening materials where standard HSS taps wear quickly. Typical users include machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians working in production or job-shop environments requiring consistent, chip-free internal threads at the 7/16-14 UNC specification.

Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill — the recommended hole diameter for thread forming differs from a standard cut tap drill and must be confirmed against OSG Series 16250 drill charts before use. Apply a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material; for stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium, use a sulfurized or EP-type lubricant. Power down and secure the workpiece fully before tapping. Do not reverse the tap under power before the forming cycle is complete, as this can gall the formed threads.
