The OSG 1625063215 is a thread forming tap designed for blind hole threading in a wide range of metals. Part of the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16250, this bottoming-style tap produces 6-32 UNC threads with a 2B class of fit and H5 thread limit. It is manufactured from cobalt high speed steel with a V-series coating, giving it the toughness needed to form threads in demanding materials including stainless steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloys. With an overall length of 2.2047 inches and a tapping depth of 0.8120 inches, it fits standard tap holders and spiral-drive machines used in production and maintenance machining work.
This tap is suited for use in blind hole applications across a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. It thread-forms rather than cuts, displacing material to create stronger threads without producing chips. Typical applications include threading aluminum castings, carbon steel components, alloy steel parts, die steel tooling, stainless steel fastener holes, and titanium structural parts. It is appropriate for CNC machining centers, manual drill presses with tapping attachments, and hand tapping in production or field repair contexts where 6-32 UNC threads are specified.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tap for applications requiring 6-32 UNC bottoming thread forming taps in standard tap holders sized for a 0.1410-inch shank diameter.
Thread forming taps should be installed by machinists or tool and die technicians familiar with tapping speeds and lubricant requirements for the target workpiece material. Ensure the spindle is set to the correct RPM and feed rate for a 6-32 tap in the specific material before engaging. Use cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tool life. Never reverse a thread forming tap dry or force it against a bottomed-out hole without confirming tapping depth clearance first.
