The OSG 1625058110 is a thread forming tap designed for producing 5/8-11 UNC internal threads in a wide range of metals. Part of the EXOPRO XPF Series 16250, this tap uses a cold-forming process rather than cutting, displacing material to create strong, work-hardened threads without generating chips. It is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and carries a TiCN coating for improved hardness and heat resistance. The modified bottoming chamfer of 2.5 to 3 threads allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. With an overall length of 4.33 inches and a thread length of 0.91 inches, it fits standard tapping chucks and CNC rigid-tapping setups. Intended for use by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians.
This tap is suited for both blind hole and through-hole threading applications across a broad material range including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. The H10 thread limit accommodates tighter tolerance requirements common in precision machined components. It performs in production environments where chip-free threading is required, such as hydraulic manifolds, structural fastener holes, and aerospace assemblies. The right-hand thread direction and 2B class of fit align with standard UNC fastener specifications.

This tap is installed by machinists or tool-and-die technicians using a tapping chuck, CNC rigid-tapping setup, or manual tap wrench rated for the required torque range. Ensure the pre-drilled hole diameter matches the correct forming tap drill size for 5/8-11 UNC to achieve proper thread form and class of fit. Use a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate to the workpiece material — lubrication is especially important for thread forming taps since they rely on material displacement. Verify spindle speed and feed rate settings are appropriate for the workpiece material before beginning the tapping cycle.
