The OSG 1625056245 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads in ductile and malleable materials without cutting chips. Part of the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16250, it features a 5/16-24 UNF thread form, a 3B class of fit, and a modified bottoming chamfer with 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads for use in blind and through-hole applications. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating to improve surface hardness, reduce friction, and extend tool life in demanding materials. Overall length is 3.54 inches with a thread length of 0.56 inches and a tapping depth of 1.38 inches. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical tradespeople use this tap when precision-threaded fastener holes are required during equipment fabrication or repair.
This tap is suited for blind hole and through-hole threading operations in a wide range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes, making it a practical choice in tight-clearance assemblies found in HVAC equipment, enclosures, pump housings, and structural components. The right-hand thread direction and H5 thread limit support consistent tolerance control across production and field repair work.

This tap should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or tradespeople familiar with threading operations and cutting tool safety. Use a proper tapping fluid or cutting lubricant appropriate to the workpiece material to protect the coating and extend tool life. Do not exceed the recommended tapping depth of 1.38 inches to avoid tool breakage in blind holes.
