The OSG 1625056187 is a thread forming tap designed for producing 5/16-18 UNC internal threads in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap features a modified bottoming chamfer with 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads, allowing it to thread close to the bottom of blind holes. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN, it handles demanding materials including stainless steel, titanium, high-nickel alloys, and hardened steel. It is sized for use with standard machine tapping equipment in job shop, production, and maintenance environments.
This tap is suited for both blind hole and through-hole threading applications across a broad material range: aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it the right choice when thread engagement must begin close to the base of a blind hole. It belongs to the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16250 product line and carries a 2B class of fit with an H7 thread limit, targeting standard commercial tolerance applications in aerospace, automotive, general machining, and maintenance repair operations.
Designed for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium workpieces. Suitable for blind hole and through-hole threading applications producing 5/16-18 UNC threads to a 2B class of fit.
This tap is installed and driven by a licensed machinist or toolroom technician using a tapping machine, CNC machining center, or manual tap wrench with appropriate torque control. Ensure the spindle speed and feed rate are set per the workpiece material before beginning the operation. Power down and lock out the machine before changing or inspecting tooling. Do not use this tap as a cutting tap or attempt to reverse it in a formed thread without confirmed machine reversing capability.
