The OSG 1625014286 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads in ductile metals without cutting or producing chips. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap delivers extended tool life in demanding materials including stainless steel, titanium, high-nickel alloys, and hardened steels. It produces a 1/4-28 UNF right-hand thread to a 2B class of fit with an H6 thread limit. The modified bottoming chamfer, with 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads, allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 3.1496 inches (80 mm). Before use, verify the pilot hole diameter matches the required thread forming drill size for 1/4-28 UNF, as the correct hole size is critical for cold-forming taps and differs from cutting tap requirements. Use appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material to reduce tool stress and heat buildup. Do not use in materials that lack sufficient ductility, as brittle materials are not compatible with thread forming operations.
