The OSG 1625012135 is a thread forming tap designed for producing 1/2-13 UNC internal threads in a wide range of metallic materials. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps cold-form threads by displacing material rather than cutting it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap carries a 3B class of fit with an H5 thread limit and features a modified bottoming chamfer of 2.5 to 3 threads, making it suitable for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. The cobalt construction with TiCN coating provides hardness and heat resistance for demanding applications. It is installed by licensed machinists, tooling specialists, and maintenance professionals working on CNC machines, drill presses, and manual tapping equipment.
This tap is rated for use in a broad range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium, corresponding to material application codes P, M, N, and H. It supports both blind hole threading and through-hole threading applications. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it especially well-suited for shallow blind holes where thread engagement close to the bottom of the bore is required. Part of the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16250.
Designed for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, hardened steel, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. Suitable for blind hole and through-hole threading applications requiring a 1/2-13 UNC thread form at 3B class of fit. Part of the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16250.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming hole diameter, which is typically larger than a standard drill size for cut taps — consult the material-specific forming hole chart before drilling. Use a tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate to the workpiece material, particularly when working with stainless steel, titanium, or high-nickel alloys. Ensure the spindle is properly aligned and set to the correct feed rate for rigid tapping cycles to avoid tap breakage. Do not use this tap with coolant-through setups, as this tool does not support coolant-through delivery.
