The OSG 1625006323 is a thread forming tap in the 6-32 UNC size, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting or producing chips. It carries a 3B class of fit and an H3 thread limit, making it suitable for precision threaded holes where consistent fit and finish are required. The modified bottoming chamfer, with 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads, allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap handles demanding materials across a wide hardness range. It is part of OSG Series 16250 under the EXOPRO XPF product line and is installed by machinists and precision fabricators working in production or maintenance environments.
This tap is suited for both blind hole and through-hole threading applications. It performs across a broad range of workpiece materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. The cold-forming process eliminates chip evacuation concerns in blind holes, making it especially practical in automated CNC tapping operations and manual tapping where material ductility allows plastic deformation of the thread form.

Thread forming taps require adequate material ductility and should not be used on brittle workpiece materials such as cast iron or hardened non-ductile alloys. Power down spindle and secure the workpiece before tap changes on any machine tool. Use the correct tapping fluid or lubricant for the workpiece material to prevent galling and extend tool life. Verify the pre-drill hole diameter matches the recommended minor diameter for the 6-32 UNC thread form, as hole sizing is critical to thread quality and tap longevity.
