The OSG 1625004405 is a thread forming tap designed for producing internal threads without cutting chips, reducing the risk of chip contamination in blind holes. Part of the EXOPRO XPF Series 16250, it is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating to improve wear resistance and reduce friction during tapping. The tap is configured for 4-40 UNC threads at a 2B class of fit with a modified bottoming chamfer of 2.5 to 3 threads, making it suited for shallow-depth thread forming applications. Right-hand thread direction and an H5 thread limit provide consistent thread quality across production runs. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists install this tap in machine shops, MRO environments, and production facilities.
This tap is built for thread forming in a wide range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. It is appropriate for both blind hole and through-hole threading operations where chip-free thread forming is required. The 4-40 UNC designation targets small-fastener applications common in precision manufacturing, electronics assembly, and instrumentation work. The TiCN coating supports extended tool life when running at elevated speeds in abrasive or work-hardening materials.
Designed for use in blind hole and through-hole threading operations requiring 4-40 UNC threads in materials coded P, M, N, and H, including aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium.
This tap is installed by machinists using standard tapping machines, CNC machining centers, or hand tapping equipment rated for small-diameter work. The spindle and workpiece must be properly secured and aligned before operation to prevent tap breakage at this diameter. Appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material should be applied to reduce heat and extend tap life. Coolant-through is not supported on this tap, so external lubrication is required.
