The OSG 1625003563 is a thread forming tap designed to cut 3-56 UNF internal threads using a cold-forming process that displaces material rather than cutting chips. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap delivers extended tool life in demanding materials including stainless steel, titanium, high-nickel alloys, and hardened steel. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Overall length is 1.97 inches (50 mm) with a thread length of 0.38 inches and a thread limit of H3. Part of the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16250, this tap is suited for precision threading in aerospace, industrial, and general machining applications.
This tap is intended for use in both blind hole and through-hole threading applications across a wide range of workpiece materials. Its material application range includes aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. The right-hand thread direction and 2B class of fit make it compatible with standard UNF fastener assemblies. The tapping depth reaches 0.42 inches, making it practical for short-depth precision thread jobs on production or maintenance work where thread quality and hole integrity are critical.
Designed for 3-56 UNF thread forming applications in materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. Suitable for blind hole and through-hole threading.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill — do not use standard cut tap drill charts, as forming taps require a larger pilot hole. Apply appropriate tapping fluid for the workpiece material before use. Ensure the tap is driven with a rigid or floating tap holder matched to the machine and work setup. Power down or secure all equipment before manual setup or tool changes.
