The OSG 1615016151 is a thread forming tap designed for M16x1.50 metric fine threading applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips. This tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and carries a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating, designated finish code V, for improved hardness and heat resistance at the cutting zone. With a modified bottoming chamfer of 2.5 to 3 threads, it is suited for blind hole work where threads must start close to the bottom. It is part of the OSG Series 16150 EXOPRO XPF-OIL line and is installed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and production operators working in metalworking environments.
This tap is rated for a wide range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium, making it applicable across aerospace, automotive, mold-and-die, and general machining operations. It supports both blind hole and through-hole threading configurations. The 6H class of fit with a D11 thread limit ensures dimensional accuracy consistent with metric fine tolerance requirements. Coolant-through capability is included, which is important when tapping deep holes or difficult alloys at production feed rates.

Thread forming taps require a specific forming tap drill size, which differs from standard tap drill charts — consult the OSG Series 16150 technical data for the correct pre-drill diameter before use. Power down and secure all machine spindles before changing or inspecting tooling. Use appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material; coolant-through capability should be connected to the machine tool coolant supply when available. This tap is intended for use in CNC machining centers or rigid tapping setups — floating tap holders may reduce thread quality with form taps.
