The OSG 1615012151 is a thread forming tap in the EXOPRO XPF-OIL series, designed for roll-form threading in blind and through-hole applications. It cuts an M12x1.50 Metric Fine thread to a 6H class of fit with a D11 thread limit, using a modified bottoming chamfer that requires minimal lead-in depth. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating to extend tool life under high-heat conditions. A coolant-through design supports internal coolant or oil delivery for improved chip evacuation and lubrication during the forming process. Licensed HVAC technicians, machinists, and metalworking professionals install this tap in production and maintenance environments.
This tap is suited for threading M12x1.50 holes in a wide range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads makes it well-suited for blind holes where thread engagement close to the bottom is required. It is commonly used in automotive, aerospace, and general machining applications where metric fine threads and tight tolerances are critical.
Designed for use in blind hole and through-hole threading operations across a broad range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. Part of the OSG Series 16150 EXOPRO XPF-OIL product family.
Thread forming taps should be installed by qualified machinists or toolroom professionals familiar with roll-form tapping procedures. Before use, ensure the workpiece is properly secured and the pilot hole diameter matches the required pre-tap drill size for M12x1.50 Metric Fine forming operations. Adequate lubrication or coolant flow through the tap shank is required to prevent galling, especially in stainless steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloys. Do not use this tap for cut-thread operations, as it is a forming tap only.
