The OSG 1615010751 is a thread forming tap designed for M12x1.75 metric coarse threading in blind hole and through-hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, this forming tap displaces material rather than cutting chips, producing stronger threads with a better surface finish. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN, it handles demanding materials including stainless steel, hardened steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. With an overall length of 4.331 inches and a thread length of 0.669 inches, it fits standard tap holders and quick-change systems. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed production use.
This tap is suited for machining operations in manufacturing, job shops, and maintenance environments where precise metric threads are required. It performs in both blind hole and through-hole threading scenarios across a wide range of workpiece materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. The 6H class of fit with a D11 thread limit ensures consistent thread tolerance for precision assemblies. It is installed by machinists and tooling technicians using CNC machining centers, drill presses, or tapping machines equipped with appropriate torque control.
Designed for M12x1.75 metric coarse thread forming in aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium workpieces. Part of the OSG Series 16150 EXOPRO XPF-OIL product line. Suitable for use in blind hole and through-hole threading applications with a maximum tapping depth of 1.933 inches.
Thread forming taps require a specific forming tap drill size — do not use standard tapping drill charts designed for cutting taps, as the hole diameter is larger for forming operations. Ensure the machine spindle and tap holder provide adequate torque control to avoid tap breakage, particularly in harder materials. Power down or lock out the machine before changing tooling. Apply cutting or tapping oil rated for the workpiece material when coolant-through capability is not in use.
