The OSG 1615010259 is a thread forming tap designed for M10x1.25 metric fine threading in metalworking and machining applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips. This tap features a cobalt construction with a TiCN coating, a modified bottoming chamfer with 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads, and a right-hand thread direction. It measures 100 millimeters (3.937 inches) in overall length with a 15 millimeter (0.591 inch) thread length. Machinists and toolroom professionals install this tap in CNC machines, drill presses, and tapping arms where precise metric fine threads are required.
This tap is suited for both blind hole and through-hole threading operations across a broad range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. It belongs to OSG Series 16150, also known under the trade name EXOPRO XPF-OIL, indicating suitability for oil-based coolant or lubricant use. The coolant-through design supports high-performance tapping in production environments where heat management is critical. It carries a 6H class of fit with a D9 thread limit.
Designed for M10x1.25 metric fine threading in blind hole and through-hole applications across aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium workpieces. Material application codes P, M, N, and H confirm this range.
This tool is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in machine tool spindles or tapping heads compatible with the 9.68 millimeter shank diameter and 7.26 millimeter square drive. Power down and lock out all machine motion before installing or changing the tap. Use an appropriate cutting or tapping oil when operating without through-coolant to prevent galling, especially in stainless steel and titanium. Verify pilot hole diameter against M10x1.25 thread forming drill charts before tapping, as forming taps require a larger pilot hole than cutting taps for the same thread size.
