The OSG 1615008255 is a thread forming tap designed for M8x1.25 metric coarse threading in both blind hole and through-hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, making it well-suited for demanding materials including stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. With a modified bottoming chamfer of 2.5 to 3 threads, it reaches near the bottom of blind holes more effectively than standard plug or spiral point styles. It carries a D5 thread limit and a 4H class of fit. Coolant-through construction supports internal coolant delivery during high-production runs.
This tap is used in machine shop, production, and maintenance repair environments where precise metric internal threads are required in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Its material application range includes aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it a practical choice for blind hole work where full thread depth close to the bottom of the hole is required. It is part of the OSG Series 16150 EXOPRO XPF-OIL line, which is optimized for oil-based coolant environments.
Designed for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium workpieces. Suitable for blind hole and through-hole threading operations. Part of the OSG Series 16150 EXOPRO XPF-OIL product line.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill — not the standard tap drill used for cut taps — to achieve the correct minor diameter before tapping. Installed by machinists or tool and die professionals using CNC machining centers, drill presses, or tapping arms with appropriate spindle speed and feed rate for the workpiece material. Use oil-based cutting fluid as specified for this series. Confirm workpiece is securely fixtured and spindle is properly aligned before operation to prevent tap breakage.
