The OSG 1615006018 is a thread forming tap designed for M6x1.00 metric coarse threading in demanding production and repair applications. Part of the EXOPRO XPF-OIL Series 16150, it is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating to handle elevated cutting temperatures and extend tool life. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 3.15 inches (80 mm), thread length is 0.39 inches (10 mm), and tapping depth reaches 1.18 inches (30 mm). Coolant-through capability supports high-speed, deep-hole tapping cycles. Licensed machinists and tooling technicians are the primary installers.
This tap is suited for blind hole and through-hole threading operations across a wide range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. The 6H class of fit and D8 thread limit make it appropriate for precision threading where controlled fit and form are required. It is commonly used in CNC machining centers, manual lathes, and tapping fixtures in both production shops and MRO environments.

This tap is installed by machinists or tooling technicians using a tapping chuck, CNC rigid tapping cycle, or manual tapping handle sized for the 0.255-inch (6.48 mm) shank diameter. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole diameter is correct for the M6x1.00 thread form before beginning the tapping cycle. When using coolant-through capability, verify that coolant pressure and flow are compatible with the machine spindle and toolholder. Inspect the tap for wear regularly, particularly when working with hardened steel or titanium, as these materials accelerate tool degradation.
