The OSG 1605056247 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads in ductile and malleable materials. Unlike cutting taps, this tool displaces material rather than removing it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. It is built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating for extended tool life under demanding production conditions. The tap carries a 5/16-24 UNF thread profile, a 2B class of fit, and an H7 thread limit, making it suitable for precision threaded assemblies. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed tapping operations in CNC machining centers and production tap cycles.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading in a wide range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. The modified bottoming chamfer, with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. It is used by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and production shops requiring consistent thread quality across high-cycle runs. The OSG EXOPRO XPF-OIL series is engineered for oil-based coolant environments and optimized for the material application codes P, M, K, N, and H.
