The OSG 1600007 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed to cut 9/16-18 UNF right-hand internal threads in through-holes and blind holes that require threads close to the bottom. Built from high-speed steel with a nitride and oxide coating, this tap resists wear and surface corrosion during repeated use. It carries a 4-flute configuration and an H5 thread limit, making it suited for precision threading work where tolerance control matters. Overall length is 3-19/32 inches with a 1-21/32-inch thread length. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians use this tap for production and repair applications.
The OSG 1600007 is used in both production machining and maintenance-repair-overhaul settings where bottoming thread engagement is required. The 9/16-18 UNF thread form is common in automotive, hydraulic, and mechanical assemblies where fine-thread engagement provides higher clamping force and vibration resistance. Per the manufacturer's material application data, this tap is rated for use in aluminum and cast iron. The straight flute design suits these materials well, allowing chips to be pushed ahead of the tap in through-hole applications or managed carefully in blind-hole work.
Rated for use in aluminum and cast iron per manufacturer specifications. Designed to cut 9/16-18 UNF right-hand internal threads and is compatible with standard 9/16-18 UNF tap holders and floating-head tapping chucks sized for a 0.429-inch shank diameter.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with tapping feeds, speeds, and cutting fluid requirements for the workpiece material. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is properly aligned with the pre-drilled pilot hole before engaging to avoid tap breakage. Cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material should be applied during the tapping operation. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, particularly on the chamfer teeth.
