The OSG 1592808 is a spiral point plug tap designed for threading 8-32 UNC holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel with a TiCN coating, it provides increased surface hardness and lubricity compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The 2-flute spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting action, making it well-suited for through-hole tapping operations. The tap is oversize ground to a +0.005 inch thread limit to compensate for springback in tougher materials. Overall length is 2 inches with a 0.39-inch thread length and a 0.168-inch shank diameter. Installation is right-hand drive. This tool is used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators across metalworking and production environments.
The 1592808 is appropriate for tapping 8-32 UNC threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. The spiral point design keeps chip evacuation moving forward, reducing the risk of chip packing in production through-hole applications. It is suited for use in manual tap handles, tapping arms, and CNC rigid tapping setups where right-hand threading is required. The Series 105H designation identifies it within the OSG production tap line. It does not support coolant-through delivery and is not designed for interrupted thread applications.
Rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. Designed for 8-32 UNC through-hole tapping applications using standard tap holders and rigid CNC tapping attachments.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with thread-cutting tooling. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the spindle or tap handle is properly aligned before engaging the tap to prevent thread damage or tool breakage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace when thread quality degrades.
