The OSG 1592700 is a straight flute plug tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads to the 1/2-20 UNF standard. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, this 4-flute tap is suited for production and repair threading operations where straight chip flow is acceptable. The plug chamfer — typically 3 to 5 threads — makes it a general-purpose starting choice for through-holes and sufficiently deep blind holes. At 3-3/8 inches overall length with a 1-21/32 inch thread length, it fits standard tap holders and threading machines used in machine shops and field maintenance work. The H11 thread limit designates a specific oversize tolerance class for controlled thread fit.
This tap is rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. It is well suited for both manual hand-tapping and machine tapping operations in manufacturing, maintenance, and repair environments. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians working with 1/2-20 UNF fastener applications will find this tap appropriate for production runs and one-off threading jobs alike. It is part of the OSG Series 101H straight flute tap line.
Designed for threading 1/2-20 UNF internal threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces. Fits standard tap holders sized for a 0.367 inch shank diameter.
This tap should be installed in a properly aligned tap holder or tapping head to prevent thread misalignment and tool breakage. Always apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material before and during tapping. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before beginning the threading operation. Follow applicable shop safety practices and machine guarding requirements when using power tapping equipment.
