The OSG 15673 is a spiral point tap designed for threading M24x3.00 metric holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a 3-flute, plug chamfer geometry that pushes chips forward ahead of the cut, making it well suited for through-hole tapping applications. Manufactured from High Speed Steel-E (cobalt-enhanced HSS), the tap carries a bright finish and is ground to a 2B class of fit, delivering standard metric thread tolerances. With a 120 mm overall length and 58 mm thread length, it is sized for use in standard machine tool setups. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users.
This tap is applied in production and maintenance machining environments where M24x3.00 metric internal threads are required. The material compatibility list covers aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel, making it a versatile toolroom tap. It is a right-hand tap and does not feature coolant-through capability, so it is best suited for conventional flood coolant or manual lubrication setups. It fits into tapping heads, CNC machining centers, or manual drill press setups with the appropriate tap holder.
Designed for use in through-hole tapping of M24x3.00 metric threads across aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel workpieces. Part of OSG Series 122.
Install this tap in a properly aligned tap holder or floating tap head to avoid cross-threading and tool breakage. Always apply appropriate cutting fluid or flood coolant matched to the workpiece material before and during the tapping cycle. Power down and lock out the machine before changing or inspecting the tap. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are within the recommended range for the workpiece material and tap diameter before starting the cut.
