The OSG 15144005 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit in wire gauge size No. 27, with a decimal diameter of 0.1440 inches. It carries a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating for improved wear resistance and longer service life in steel and alloy steel applications. The bit features a 130-degree drill point angle and an X-thinned, tapered web for reduced thrust and improved self-centering. With an overall length of 3-5/16 inches and a flute length of 1-7/8 inches, the 15144005 fits standard jobber-length chuck setups. It is sold individually and installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and metalworking tradespeople.
This bit is designed for drilling into steel and alloy steel in production and maintenance environments. Typical applications include blind hole drilling, cross hole drilling, general drilling, and self-centering starts. The 130-degree split point and X-thinned web reduce walking on flat or curved metal surfaces. Its straight-cylindrical shank with a 3/16-inch diameter accepts standard drill chucks used on benchtop drill presses, CNC machines, and handheld power drills. Install in a properly rated drill chuck, confirming the chuck accommodates a 3/16-inch straight shank. Secure the workpiece before drilling and ensure the machine spindle speed is appropriate for cobalt tooling in ferrous materials. Inspect the TiN coating and cutting edges for wear before each use; replace the bit if chipping or coating breakdown is observed. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so external coolant or cutting fluid should be applied at the drill point when machining harder alloy steels.
