The OSG 15101505 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge 38 (0.1015 inches, 2.58 mm) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating. It features a 130-degree split point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web design for reduced thrust and improved self-centering on entry. The overall length is 2-7/8 inches with a 1-7/16-inch flute length and a 3/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank. The right-hand spiral flute geometry and cobalt substrate make this bit suitable for drilling steel and alloy steel where standard HSS tooling falls short. It is installed by machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians working with harder ferrous materials.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling operations in steel and alloy steel. Typical applications include blind hole drilling, cross-hole drilling, and through-hole work where a self-centering point reduces the need for a center-punch or pilot operation. The TiN coating extends tool life in moderate-duty production environments. At wire size 38, this bit is commonly used for tap-drill and clearance-hole work on small fasteners and precision assemblies. It is sold individually and fits standard 3/16-inch drill chucks and collets.
Designed for use in steel and alloy steel workpieces (primary material code P). Fits any drill press, CNC machining center, or hand drill with a 3/16-inch or larger chuck capacity. No coolant-through capability; use external coolant or cutting fluid as required by the application.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before starting the spindle. Ensure the workpiece is clamped and the machine is set to an appropriate speed and feed for cobalt tooling in steel. Apply cutting fluid at the drill point when drilling steel to maximize coating and substrate life. Inspect the drill point for chipping or wear before each use, as small-diameter bits are susceptible to breakage if run at excessive feed rates.
