The OSG 1432008 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 1/2-13 UNC internal threads in a range of metals. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a TiCN coating, it delivers improved wear resistance and heat reduction compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The plug chamfer configuration provides a gradual thread lead-in, making it well suited for through-hole tapping applications. With a 50-degree helix angle and 3 right-hand spiral flutes, the tool efficiently evacuates chips upward out of the hole, reducing the risk of chip packing. It carries an H3 thread limit and a 3B class of fit, meeting standard tolerance requirements for most general-purpose threaded connections. Overall length is 3-3/8 inches.
This tap is designed for tapping through holes in a variety of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. The spiral flute geometry makes it especially effective in materials that produce long, stringy chips. It is a practical choice for production machining, job-shop work, and maintenance applications where 1/2-13 UNC threads are required. The TiCN coating extends tool life in abrasive materials and contributes to cleaner thread form across higher-volume runs.
Designed for tapping 1/2-13 UNC through holes in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel workpieces. Part of OSG Series 107.
Installation is performed by machinists using a tapping machine, drill press, or CNC machining center with appropriate tap holders. Ensure the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for 1/2-13 UNC before tapping. Apply a suitable cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tool life. Inspect threads with a 3B class GO/NO-GO gauge after tapping to confirm dimensional compliance.
