The OSG 1432001 is a spiral flute plug tap designed for threading 1/2-13 UNC holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a steam oxide coating, this tap is suited for shop environments where consistent thread quality and tool durability are priorities. The 50-degree helix angle drives chips up and out of the hole, making it well suited for through-hole and blind-hole applications in softer to medium-hardness materials. With a 3B class of fit and H3 thread limit, it produces threads to standard tolerance for most general-purpose fastener assemblies. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance professionals install this tap by hand or with tapping equipment.
The OSG 1432001 Series 107 tap is rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in, making it appropriate as a starter tap for new holes or as the primary tap where full thread engagement is required from the top of the hole. Right-hand fluting and right-hand thread direction match standard UNC fastener orientation. At 3.375 inches overall length, it fits standard tap wrenches and tapping heads sized for 1/2-inch nominal tooling.
Rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. Designed as an OEM-style tooling replacement for 1/2-13 UNC spiral flute plug taps in Series 107 applications.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC tapping cycle set for right-hand rotation. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the drill hole is sized to the correct tap drill diameter for 1/2-13 UNC before tapping begins. Apply a suitable cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Never reverse a tap under power without confirming the machine supports synchronized tapping to avoid tap breakage.
