The OSG 1430905 is a spiral flute bottoming tap designed for cutting 3/8-16 UNC internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating, it delivers improved wear resistance and reduced friction compared to uncoated tooling. The bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes where plug or taper taps cannot reach. With a 50-degree helix angle and right-hand flute direction, the spiral geometry efficiently evacuates chips upward out of the hole during the tapping cycle. This tap is suited for machine tapping operations in production and job-shop environments.
The 1430905 is rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. Its 3B class of fit and H3 thread limit produce threads within standard tolerance for general mechanical assembly. With an overall length of 2-15/16 inches and a thread length of approximately 1-1/4 inches, it fits standard tap holders and floating collet chucks used on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines. It is sold individually and is well suited for maintenance shops, production lines, and toolroom use.

Machinist or toolroom personnel should install this tap in a properly aligned tap holder or floating chuck to avoid side-loading that can lead to tap breakage. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing tooling. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material — sulfurized oil for steel, water-soluble coolant or light oil for aluminum. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate for the machine and holder in use; forced feeding in blind holes is a common cause of tap failure.
