The OSG 1430802 is a spiral flute plug tap designed to cut 3/8-16 UNC internal threads in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a 50-degree helix angle that evacuates chips upward and away from the cutting zone, reducing the risk of chip packing in blind holes. The tap is manufactured from high-speed steel and carries an elektraLUBE coating that reduces friction and heat buildup during the threading operation. With a 3B class of fit and H3 thread limit, it produces threads that meet standard tolerance requirements for most general mechanical assemblies. Overall length is 2-15/16 inches. Installation is performed by machinists and maintenance mechanics on drill press, CNC, or hand-tapping setups.
The OSG 1430802 suits production and maintenance tapping in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. Its spiral flute geometry makes it particularly well-suited for blind-hole applications where chip extraction is critical. The plug chamfer provides a 3-5 thread lead-in, which is the standard starting configuration for through-holes and moderately deep blind holes. It belongs to OSG Series 107 and is packaged as a single tap per unit.

Power down or de-energize any machine tool spindle before mounting or removing the tap from a holder. Use a properly sized tap wrench, tapping head, or rigid CNC tapping cycle - floating holders may be used where synchronization is not available. Apply cutting fluid or verify that the elektraLUBE coating is sufficient for the work material and depth before running dry. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear after extended use in cast iron or high-carbon steel, as these materials accelerate edge wear.
