The OSG 1415004708 is a thread forming tap designed for M10x1.25 metric fine threading in blind hole applications. Part of the EXOTAP VP-NRT series, it uses a cold-forming process that displaces material rather than cutting it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. Constructed from powdered metal high-speed steel (PM-HSS) and finished with a TiCN coating, it delivers high hardness and wear resistance across demanding production environments. The bottoming chamfer with 1 to 1.5 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Overall length is 2.9134 inches with a tapping depth of 1.252 inches.
This tap is suited for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum workpieces. The thread forming design makes it especially effective in ductile materials where chip evacuation is a concern. Typical installation scenarios include CNC machining centers, tapping heads, and manual tapping fixtures in production shops, tool rooms, and maintenance environments. Right-hand thread direction and a D9 thread limit support standard 2B class of fit tolerances for metric fine fastener applications.
Designed for M10x1.25 metric fine blind hole threading in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Suitable for use with standard tapping chucks, CNC rigid tapping, and tapping heads that accept a 0.381-inch shank diameter.
Thread forming taps should be installed by a machinist or toolroom technician familiar with tapping speeds and feed rates for the specific workpiece material. Ensure the spindle is properly aligned with the hole before engaging to prevent tap damage or thread distortion. Use a thread-forming-compatible tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material. Always verify machine RPM and feed rate are set for form tapping, as these differ from cutting tap parameters.
