The OSG 1415003008 is a thread forming tap in the EXOTAP VP-NRT series, designed for M8x1.25 Metric Coarse blind hole threading applications. Unlike cutting taps, this bottoming-style form tap displaces material rather than cutting it, producing stronger, smoother threads with no chips to evacuate. It is manufactured from Powdered Metal High-Speed Steel and finished with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating for extended tool life in demanding materials. With a bottoming chamfer of 1 to 1.5 threads, it threads close to the bottom of blind holes. Licensed machinists and toolroom professionals install this tap in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading in a wide range of workpiece materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The bottoming chamfer geometry makes it the correct choice when thread depth must reach near the bottom of a drilled cavity. It carries a Class of Fit 3B with a D5 thread limit, making it appropriate for standard precision metric fastener applications across both production and maintenance machining environments.
Designed for M8x1.25 Metric Coarse blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Suitable for use with standard M8 tapping fixtures and toolholders that accept an 8.08 mm shank diameter with a 6.05 mm square drive.
This tap is installed by machinists and toolroom professionals using tapping machines, CNC machining centers, or hand tapping setups. Always ensure the tap is driven with a proper rigid or floating tap holder appropriate for form tapping to avoid thread distortion. Use a recommended tapping fluid or cutting oil suitable for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tool life. Inspect the pre-drilled hole diameter carefully before tapping, as thread forming taps require a larger pilot hole diameter than equivalent cutting taps.
