The OSG 1415002608 is a bottoming-style thread forming tap in the EXOTAP VP-NRT series, designed to cold-form internal threads without cutting. Operating on a chipless forming principle, it displaces material rather than removing it, producing stronger, smoother threads with no chips to clear from blind holes. The tap is manufactured from powdered metal high-speed steel for consistent grain structure and enhanced wear resistance. A TiCN coating reduces friction and extends tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. This is a right-hand, M6x1.00 metric coarse tap with a D5 thread limit and a Class 3B fit. Licensed machinists and toolroom professionals are the primary installers.
This tap is built for blind hole threading applications where chip evacuation is a concern. The bottoming chamfer, with 1 to 1.5 threads of lead, allows threading close to the bottom of a blind bore. Suitable for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum workpieces. It fits standard tap holders and extension drivers compatible with the shank dimensions of this tool. The EXOTAP VP-NRT series is commonly used in production machining, repair shops, and precision fabrication environments.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring M6x1.00 metric coarse, right-hand internal threads. Material application codes: P, M, N.
Thread forming taps require a specifically sized forming tap drill — do not use the standard tap drill diameter for cut taps, as the hole must be slightly larger to allow material flow. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is aligned axially to the bore before driving. Use a tapping fluid appropriate to the workpiece material to reduce heat and tool wear. Never back-drive a forming tap at high speed without verifying holder compatibility.
