The OSG 1415002208 is a thread forming tap designed for M5x0.80 metric coarse threading in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, this tool forms threads by cold-working the material rather than removing chips, producing stronger threads with superior surface finish. Built from powdered metal high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, it delivers extended tool life in demanding production environments. The bottoming chamfer style with 1 to 1.5 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Class of fit is 3B with a D4 thread limit. Part of the EXOTAP VP-NRT series, this tap is suited for use in CNC machining centers and manual tapping operations by machinists and tool and die professionals.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Its thread forming action makes it particularly effective in ductile materials where chip evacuation is a concern. The bottoming chamfer design suits deep blind holes where thread engagement near the hole bottom is required. The right-hand thread direction follows standard machining convention for most production threading setups.
Designed for M5x0.80 metric coarse blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Part of the OSG EXOTAP VP-NRT series, series 14150.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist familiar with thread forming tooling. Ensure the tap holder provides adequate axial float to prevent thread pitch distortion. Pre-drill with the correct forming tap drill diameter per M5x0.80 specifications before tapping — forming taps require a larger pilot hole than cutting taps. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or lubricant for the workpiece material even though the tool does not use through-coolant.
