The OSG 1412502 is a spiral flute bottoming tap designed for threading 6-32 UNC holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with an elektraLUBE coating, it delivers reduced friction and improved chip evacuation in blind-hole applications. The right-hand, 2-flute spiral design with a 50-degree helix angle pulls chips up and out of the hole during the tapping cycle, minimizing the risk of chip packing. Rated to an H3 thread limit with a 2B class of fit, this tap produces threads that meet standard tolerance requirements for general mechanical fastening. Overall length is 2 inches.
This tap is suited for use in machine tapping operations on production floors, maintenance benches, and CNC setups where blind-hole threads are required. Its bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a plug or taper tap. Material application includes aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel, making it a versatile choice for general machining and repair work across manufacturing and industrial maintenance environments.
Designed for machine or hand tapping of 6-32 UNC blind holes in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces. No coolant-through capability; intended for standard tapping with appropriate cutting fluid applied externally.
Installation should be performed by a machinist or qualified technician familiar with tapping feeds, speeds, and alignment requirements for HSS taps. Secure the workpiece firmly and ensure the tap is properly aligned with the pre-drilled pilot hole before engaging the cut to prevent tap breakage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to maximize tool life and thread quality. For machine tapping, set spindle speed to values appropriate for the material and tap diameter per standard machining reference data.
