The OSG 1412501 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 6-32 UNC internal threads in a bottoming configuration. Built from high-speed steel with a steam oxide coating, it resists wear and provides lubricity during tapping operations. The 2-flute, right-hand spiral design with a 50-degree helix angle efficiently evacuates chips up and out of the hole, making it well suited for blind-hole applications. With a 2B class of fit and H3 thread limit, the tap produces threads within standard tolerance for general mechanical assemblies. Overall length is 2 inches. Licensed machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance mechanics are the primary users.
This tap is rated for use in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. The bottoming chamfer allows threading to the bottom of a blind hole, making it the correct choice when thread engagement must extend as far as possible into a workpiece. It is a common tool in production machining, MRO maintenance, and fabrication shops.
Designed for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel workpieces requiring 6-32 UNC bottoming threads. Not rated for coolant-through operation.
Install in a tapping chuck or rigid tap holder sized for the 0.141-inch shank diameter. Power down or de-energize any driven spindle before changing tooling. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material before tapping. Do not reverse direction abruptly in blind holes; back the tap out carefully to clear chips and avoid breakage.
