The OSG 1410108008 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT Series 14101, designed for cold-forming internal threads in blind holes without cutting or producing chips. Sized for M4x0.70 metric coarse threads with a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 threads, this tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and carries a TiCN coating for extended tool life in demanding materials. With an overall length of 54.00 mm (2.126 inches) and a tapping depth of 19.60 mm (0.7717 inches), it is suited for precision threading in tight workpiece geometries. Licensed machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
The 1410108008 is suited for blind hole threading operations in a wide range of workpiece materials, including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes, making it useful in fixture fabrication, mold and die work, and general precision machining. Its right-hand thread direction conforms to standard M4 fastener applications across manufacturing and maintenance environments.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in M4x0.70 metric coarse applications across workpiece materials coded P and N, including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole — consult material-specific forming tap drill charts before use, as the recommended hole diameter differs from standard cutting tap drill sizes. Use appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil matched to the workpiece material. Secure the workpiece and use a calibrated torque-controlled tap driver or CNC rigid tapping cycle to avoid tap breakage. Inspect the tap for wear or deformation before each use, particularly when working in hardened steel or stainless steel.
