The OSG 1410105901 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-form tapping of internal threads without cutting or producing chips. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a steam oxide coating, it handles M12x1.75 metric coarse threads using a plug chamfer with 4 to 4.5 chamfered threads. Thread forming displaces material rather than cutting it, producing stronger threads with better surface finish in ductile materials. Overall length is 3.3465 inches (85.70 mm), with a 6H class of fit and D11 thread limit. This tap is installed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics in production and repair environments.
The 1410105901 is suited for through-hole threading operations across a wide range of workpiece materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and hardened steel. The plug chamfer makes it well suited for through-holes where the tap can fully enter the hole before full-form threads begin. Typical applications include production threading in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines. Coolant-through is not supported on this tap, so standard flood or brush-applied cutting fluid should be used where applicable.
Designed for through-hole threading of M12x1.75 metric coarse internal threads in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P and N apply.
Thread forming taps should be installed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel familiar with cold-form tapping speeds and feeds for the specific workpiece material. Power down and lock out any machine tool before installing or removing the tap from the holder. Use the correct tap holder or floating collet to prevent axial load damage; rigid holders require precise spindle-to-hole alignment. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil to the tap and hole entrance before beginning the tapping cycle.
