The OSG 1410105705 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-form threading operations in metalworking applications. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it cuts no chips during the tapping process, instead displacing material to create strong, work-hardened threads. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel for increased heat and wear resistance, and carries a TiN (titanium nitride) coating to further extend tool life and reduce friction. Sized at M12x1.75 Metric Coarse with a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 thread pitches, it is suited for threading blind holes close to the bottom of a bore. Overall length is 3.3465 inches (85.70 mm) with a thread length of 0.8268 inches (21.00 mm).
This tap is intended for blind hole threading in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The modified bottoming geometry allows the tap to reach near the full depth of a blind hole, making it a practical choice for close-tolerance threaded inserts, fastener bosses, and structural thread features in machined components. It is commonly used by machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working with CNC or manual tapping setups.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring M12x1.75 Metric Coarse, 6H class of fit threads. Material application codes P and N apply.
Thread forming taps require a larger pilot hole diameter than cutting taps — consult a thread forming drill chart specific to M12x1.75 before drilling. Use a tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material; this is especially important when tapping stainless or hardened steel. Secure the workpiece and ensure proper tap alignment before applying torque to avoid tap breakage in blind holes. This tap is intended for use by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with tapping procedures and machine tooling.
